Cocoa Butter, also known as Cacao Butter, is obtained from the fruit of the cocoa tree — genus Theobroma. The cocoa tree dates back over 3,000 years, and is native to the Amazon forest and regions of Central America. Craft 360 Organic Deodorised Cocoa Butter is made from Peruvian beans.

Cocoa is cultivated organically in Peru, utilising an agroforestry system. This system integrates well with the existing forest structure — where the cocoa trees are grown in combination with taller shade and fertiliser trees, without chemical fertiliser and chemical pest control.

Once the fruits are completely ripe, the cocoa harvest commences. This involves splitting open the fruit and removing the beans from the pod. After fermentation, the beans are then roasted, stripped, and pressed to separate the fat, creating Cocoa Butter. The result is a premium, unrefined Cocoa Butter with a decadent, chocolate-like odour. This naturally strong aroma is hard to mask and utilise in cosmetics and toiletries. Therefore, Craft 360 Cocoa Butter is partially deodorised to eliminate the intense smell, leaving a natural, subtle, creamy chocolate scent. 

Benefits of Organic Deodorised Cocoa Butter

The typical fatty acid composition for Organic Cocoa Butter includes 34.5% stearic acid, 34.5% oleic acid, and 26.5% palmitic acid. These fatty acids contribute to the following benefits:

• Forms a protective barrier on skin, locking in moisture — giving excellent hydration
• Can be used to soften and condition hair 
• Has a high level of oleic acid when coupled with natural antioxidants — preventing rancidity and creating a longer shelf life
• Is known to contain vitamin E — replenishing the skin, scalp, and hair
• Contains small quantities of vitamin K — believed to avoid development of stretch marks
• Scientific studies suggest the presence of flavonoid and polyphenol antioxidants may reduce inflammation and shield the skin from UV-induced damage

Applications and Recommendations

Organic Deodorised Cocoa Butter can be used alone or added into the formulation.

As a daily moisturiser: Scoop a generous amount of butter and melt into palm. Apply to skin using your fingertips. Massage into skin using gentle upward and outward circular motions.

Lip care: Apply to dry and chapped lips.

Hair care: Massage a small amount of butter into roots to moisturise hair. Add into conditioner to nourish hair and improve shine.

For Skin and Hair Care Applications: Slowly heat and melt before use. Add to the oil phase of formula. 

O/W emulsions (creams and lotions): 2-7%

Salves and balms: 10-100% 

W/O emulsions (body butter and creams): 5-25%

Hair conditioners: 1-3%

Makeup foundations and soap bars: 5-20%

Please Note: We do NOT melt our Organic Cocoa Butter when repackaging. Excessive and repeated exposure to heat can be damaging to the quality. Craft 360 Organic Deodorised Cocoa Butter is carved from the block when repacking.
