Cocoa Butter, sometimes called Cacao Butter, is from the fruit of the genus Theobroma — the cocoa tree. Indigenous to the Amazon forest and regions of Central America, the cocoa tree dates back over 3,000 years. Craft 360 Organic Non-Deodorised Cocoa Butter is made from Peruvian beans.

Producers in Peru cultivate their organic Cocoa Butter using an agroforestry system. This system integrates well with existing forest structure — where the cocoa trees are grown in combination with taller shade and fertiliser trees. This eliminates the need for chemical fertilisers and pest control.

The cocoa harvest commences once the fruits are completely ripe. Here, the fruit is split open and the beans are removed from the pod. Following fermentation, the beans are then roasted, stripped, and pressed to remove the fat.

Craft 360 Organic Non-Deodorised Cocoa Butter is pale yellow in colour and has a decadent, chocolate-like odour. Our premium product undergoes less processing — making it a more pure and natural product.

Benefits of Organic Unrefined Cocoa Butter

The typical fatty acid composition for Organic Cocoa Butter includes 34.5% stearic acid, 34.5% oleic acid, and 26.5% palmitic acid. These fatty acids contribute to the following benefits:

• Forms a protective barrier on skin, locking in moisture — giving excellent hydration
• Can be used to soften and condition hair 
• Has a high level of oleic acid when coupled with natural antioxidants — preventing rancidity and creating a longer shelf life
• Is known to contain vitamin E — replenishing the skin, scalp, and hair
• Contains small quantities of vitamin K — believed to avoid development of stretch marks
• Scientific studies suggest the presence of flavonoid and polyphenol antioxidants may reduce inflammation and shield the skin from UV-induced damage

Applications and Recommendations

Organic Unrefined Cocoa Butter can be used alone or added into the formulation.

As a daily moisturiser: Scoop a generous amount of butter and melt into palm. Apply to skin using your fingertips. Massage into skin using gentle upward and outward circular motions.

Lip care: Apply to dry and chapped lips.

Hair care: Massage a small amount of butter into roots to moisturise hair. Add into conditioner to nourish hair and improve shine.

For Skin and Hair Care Applications: Slowly heat and melt before use. Add to the oil phase of formula. 

O/W emulsions (creams and lotions): 2-7%

Salves and balms: 10-100% 

W/O emulsions (body butter and creams): 5-25%

Hair conditioners: 1-3%

Makeup foundations and soap bars: 5-20%

Please Note: Not for internal consumption. We do NOT melt our Organic Cocoa Butter when repackaging. Craft 360 Organic Unrefined Cocoa Butter is carved from the block when repacking.
